Special Olympics opening ceremony - Olympic flame arrives in Belfast

Anyone who attended the 2006 Special Olympic games would agree that the games were a tremendous success.  From the opening ceremony at the Odyssey arena to the closing of the games, all events went very well, thanks in no small part to the 5,500 volunteers who answered the call to work at the Games were invaluable. They organised the games efficiently, safely and with all the friendliness and hospitality that surpassed all of the athletes’ expectations.

Mary Davis CEO of Special Olympics Ireland commented, “As a result of the overwhelming support from the people of Northern Ireland and in particular Belfast and Antrim, we are well on the way to creating more sports opportunities for people with a learning disability. Everyone who supported us is an ambassador for Special Olympics and they are all part of a profound legacy that will change attitudes and transform perceptions of entire communities about disability – thank you.”

allbed were the official bedding suppliers for the equestrian games which were held at Lessans Riding Centre near Saintfield.  The event was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended and allbed were proud to be associated with Special Olympics Ireland, and in particular the equestrian events.
