Saturday the 1st July 2006 saw the 166th Omagh take place at the Tyrone farming societies’ fantastic show grounds on the outskirts of Omagh

The organisers had laid on a fantastic days entertainment for all the family, with attractions including a motorcycle display team, and Fernando Alonso’s Renult F1 car!

allbed were pleased to be supporting the ridden Connemara class at this years show (the “allbed NI ridden Connemara Championships”), which was won by Rebecca Irwin from Newtownards and her pony Ballybawn Millar.

This class was started in 2005 by Marina Wray, Pauline McLaren and Heather Monteith in memory of their father R.J Monteith (Bob) who was a regular competitor and member of Tyrone Farming Society. This year they presented a beautiful silver cup in his memory, while allbed put forward the prize fund for the event.
Winner of the class Rebecca Irwin competing at her first show in the 2006 season gave a very accomplished performance to win the class for the second year running. Rebecca and Millar received the RJ Monteith Perpetual Cup from Raymond McKernan, representative from allbed, and a cheque for £50.

Second in the class was Gardenvale Girl, ridden by Michelle Slater (Coleraine) who took over the ride at the last minute and only sat on the mare for the first time on Friday night. Michelle (13) rode her beautifully to take reserve champion and the award for the highest placed mare in the class.  In third place was the four year old dun gelding by Ashfield Jovial Joker ridden by Pamela Caldwell who also took the highest placed young pony award.
