National Ploughing Championships 2006 (Tullow, Co. Carlow)

Over 220,000 people descended on Grangeford, Tullow, Co Carlow for the 75th National and 53rd World Ploughing Championships which took place during the last week in September, despite having to content with the inclement weather and mud as far as the eye could see!

With over 60 acres of exhibition area, there was sure to be something to suit all tastes with the vast variety of exhibitors which included government bodies, sporting organisations, machinery demonstrations, forestry village, education and business centre, shopping arcades and entertainment events.

In particular the Dancing Diggers (who were appearing in Ireland for the first time in 30 years) and the Stihl Timbersports demonstration proved a real hit with the crowds, and of course allbed were in attendance at the event with the allbed exhibition trailer to allow people to see for themselves why allbed has proven such a hit with horse owners since its launch

The World Ploughing event which took place over the last two days of the championships and for the first time in a decade, took place on a Saturday was a huge success with 17 year old Scot Andrew Mitchell taking first place in the conventional and Simon Witty from England taking the reversible for a second time having won the title in 2005.
Next year, the National Ploughing Championships will take place on Annaharvey Farm in Tullamore, Co Offaly from the 25th to 27th September, and allbed will be at the show once again, so be sure to put that date in your diary!
